And just like that…I’m writing my last editor’s note as Spyglass’ Editor-in-Chief.
Last week, the Spyglass staff elected and announced the 2025-26 school year’s leadership, including junior Valentina V. as Editor-in-Chief and sophomore Rebecca L. as the next Managing Editor. In addition, Sophomore Gemma A. will be next year’s Website Manager, and Frances B. will be next year’s Social Media Manager.
A more extensive goodbye to Spyglass will come from me in May’s Senior Spotlight edition, but I want to say now that writing for and leading this publication has been one of my life’s great privileges. For the lucky few that find their home in Spyglass, its teachings and overall experience are life-changing.
I’m sad to be saying goodbye soon, but I am excited to announce one last edition led by Managing Editor Tanvi C. ’25 and me.
Coming back from Discovery Week and Spring Break at the beginning of the month, Westridge’s campus was abuzz with student thoughts about their respective trips. Upcoming editors Frances B. ’27 and Josie S.-J. ’27 took to the streets of campus to ask students about their experiences, and they wrote about it here. If you’re interested in my satirical take on my trip to Chile, you can read “8 Egregious Anecdotes.”
Back from our trips around the world, staffers wrote about updates to the Commons, why Westridge’s distance running team is flourishing this year, and developments to Westridge’s new property purchase on Arlington Drive.
Our journalists also weren’t shy to share their own voices, writing opinions about being a twin, playing softball for the first time, and the college process.
Thank you to Ms. Hansen, my editorial board, and the tens of staffers who make each and every edition possible.
So long,
Ella
