On Wednesday, April 8, the Spyglass staff elected the 2026-2027 editorial board. Just like that, the small, hand-held telescope has been passed on to a new group of rising seniors including elected Editor-in-Chief Rebecca L., Managing Editor Tekle S.-J., Website Manager/Designer Gemma A., and Social Media Manager Frances B.
Editor-in-Chief

Rebecca joined the Middle School Spyglass club in seventh grade and never looked back. As a sophomore, Rebecca became an editor, and took on the role of Managing Editor as a junior. Now, a rising senior, she is excited to grow Spyglass’ outreach as Editor-in-Chief. Whether it means pulling in new contributors or finding new readers, Rebecca is ready to expand the paper’s community engagement. Rebecca said, “Even if someone isn’t on staff, any way we can get support would be amazing.”
Overall, Rebecca is elated to step into her new role as Editor-in-Chief and as a senior. “I’m excited to make the most of every moment. I think as each day goes by next year, in senior year, I just want to take advantage of all the opportunities that are surrounding me and really set Spyglass up for once I graduate,” she said. Rebecca also notes that past Editors-in-Chief have inspired her (gee, thanks Rebecca) and she hopes to be a similar role model to younger staff writers and editors.
Managing Editor

Tekle has been on Spyglass since her freshman year and has served as an editor since her sophomore year. Next year, Tekle will be Spyglass’ Managing Editor and will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to keep Spyglass running smoothly.
Similar to Rebecca, Tekle is excited to expand Spyglass’ outreach. Tekle is also excited to iron out the pitching process, which is when the staff comes together to share ideas for the next edition. “That’s my favorite part of Spyglass by a mile, and I’m excited to kind of grow that process a little bit more, putting more emphasis on that cooking, because I love hearing what other people have to say about my pitches,” said Tekle. “I love talking about other people’s pitches. I feel like that’s really a place where I grow.”
Website Manager/Designer

Gemma is returning to Spyglass for her third year on staff and second year serving as the Website Manager/Designer. While it is Gemma’s second year holding this position, she plans to improve the website even further next year, making the website’s evolution mirror Spyglass’ growth as a newspaper staff. “I definitely want to improve our homepage a little bit. I wanted to make it more user-friendly and accessible, so we can highlight everyone’s stories and the incredible artwork from the design team,” said Gemma. “I also want to find a home for vertical videos, which I know many of our staffers have been making and are making currently.”
Social Media Manager

Frances is also returning to Spyglass for her third year on staff and second year as Spyglass’ Social Media Manager. She has exciting plans to boost viewership of Spyglass’ social media next year. “I want to continue to grow our Instagram and have more people see it so that they can read Spyglass,” said Frances. “And I’m thinking about maybe starting a Tiktok.”
