It’s February, and while I view this month as I would any other, the couples among us are targeted by the aggressive pink teddy bears and candy hearts that taste like chalk. The overpriced CVS chocolate is wheeled out, and the stuffed animals stare at you with their beady eyes from the butter aisle.
As a girl who is currently single, I am not confined by the strict definition of Valentine’s Day that haunts my peers in committed relationships. Don’t wallow in your singleness this Valentine’s—embrace it.
So here are 5 things to do with everybody but a significant other:
1. Throw a Galentine’s party! Get all your fellow singles together for a night of friendship and fun! You could even give your party a theme. Dress up in cute pajamas, come as your favorite rom-com character, or my personal favorite, “Jelly Cats and Thongs.” Forget having a needy significant other, dance and eat the night away with your best friends!
2. Take yourself on a solo date. There’s so much to do in this city, whether you want to eat, commune with nature, or take yourself on a shopping spree! Maybe it’s time to do some inward reflection and focus solely on yourself. Go buy an overpriced Hailey Bieber smoothie from Erewhon (it’s pink) or hike up to the Griffith Park Observatory and get back in touch with Mother Nature. Whatever it may be, you don’t need anybody else.
3. Give yourself a spa day. Break out that face mask that I know you’ve been saving since 8th grade. Take a bubble bath and do that 12-step skincare routine! Give yourself (and your face) some much-needed R&R.
4. Bake or cook something delicious. Whether you’re a baker or a cook, spending time in the kitchen can be super therapeutic. Maybe invite a friend over and make something fun. Maybe it’s a 3-layer cake you saw on Instagram and therefore think you can recreate, or an elaborate 3-course dinner. Indulge yourself, literally!
5. Take the February 14th ACT. What loves you more than a standardized test? Spend the day of love in a convention center in the middle of Alhambra, surrounded by bubble-in answer sheets! Nothing says “I’m committed” like being in a room with hundreds of teenagers and choosing the ACT every time.

![Lacrosse had an incredible season, making it to the semifinals. Jeff Searock, the father of player Sophie S. '28 has gone to most games and said, "[The season has] been great. Great coaching, great players, kids have great attitude. You can't ask for much more."](https://westridgespyglass.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_3652-1200x900.jpeg)
