Welcome to Metro Stop Highlights, a series where we showcase the various stops along the A Line Metro in Los Angeles, California. Our eleventh stop is Glendora. As you exit the Metro in Glendora, you’re instantly greeted by artwork and restaurants making up the downtown neighborhood. Whether you’re contemplating between visiting their classic mushroom trees or studying at a coffee shop, here are some of our favorite things to do near the station.
For this stop, we had a personal tour guide, Ms. Jennifer Cutler, Upper School History Teacher and resident of Glendora. For the past six years, Ms. Cutler has taken the train nearly every day to campus. She took us around and showed us several stops, most notably the Glendora sign.
Mushroom Trees
One of Glendora’s most picturesque attractions is the countless “mushroom trees” that line Glendora Avenue, each a ficus tree cut to perfection. As you pace the streets of Glendora during the day, bask in the summer shade of these beautiful trees. At night, check out the string lights lining the trees, lighting the street up with that characteristic Glendora spark.
Cindy Jane
Cindy Jane was started as an online business in February 2024, but “quickly outgrew” the conference room it was operated from. Now, the family-owned Cindy Jane has a brick-and-mortar location on the corner of Glendora and Foothill, yet still makes the cowgirl aesthetic accessible to all by shipping nationwide. Inside, enjoy the bright blues of denim, sparkly dresses, and a never-ending supply of cowboy hats; you’ll never know when you might need one!
Classic Coffee
As one of the most awarded Glendora businesses, Ms. Cutler recommends Classic Coffee for all of your San Gabriel Valley coffee needs. The cozy interior feels almost like a home, and you’ll be sure to know your barista by name, even after just one trip. As Jones fanatics ourselves, we were impressed with the friendly and efficient service of Classic Coffee, and would recommend the Caramel Latte and Iced Chai Latte.
Fosselman’s Ice Cream
Have you ever taken a trip back in time? If not, stepping into Fosselman’s Ice Cream in Glendora, the second location of the popular chain, definitely feels like one. As you enjoy your delicious frozen treats, be sure to take a peek at the historic photos on the walls, depicting Mr. Fosselman and other Fosselman’s workers in decades past. As your two favorite ice cream connoisseurs, we recommend the Cookie Dough and Rocky Road flavors, especially if you pair it with a homemade waffle cone. Ms. Cutler, however, prefers a similar chunky flavor paired with a lovely blue hue, recommending the Cookie Monster in a cup.
Lorisa Gardens
At Lorisa Gardens, your garden won’t be the only place in your house getting an upgrade. From pickle-themed decor to diamond-encrusted cake servers to an extensive Jellycat collection, Lorisa is the place to stock up on all of your seasonal essentials. Be sure to share your Jellycat purchases with Ms. Cutler, who on our trip discovered that Jellycats are stuffed animals and not a video game, like she believed.
