    May Editor’s Note

Read Spyglass’ last edition for the 2023-24 school year! (Isa H. )

And just like that, we have published this school year’s last edition of Spyglass. This edition marks my first as Editor-in-Chief—a role I am incredibly honored to hold. Our new leadership also includes Tanvi C. ’25 stepping into the Managing Editor role, Reed D. ’25 continuing her role as our fantastic Website Manager, and Mirella C. ’25 becoming our Social Media Manager. To read more about our new leadership, click here.

But this edition is not just about welcoming the new; it’s also about celebrating our graduating seniors and the passion, effort, and time they dedicated to Spyglass. We are now saying goodbye to two former Editors-in-Chief (Ilena M. in 2022–23 and this year’s Eliza W.); 3-year-editor Daria H.; the founder of Spyglass Live, Genevieve W.; a brilliant and humorous staff writer, Sylvie S.-J.; the leader of Spyglass’ design team for the past two years, Song; and many more talented design team members.

As we celebrate the seniors who worked on Spyglass, we as a school are also celebrating the entire class of 2024. Juniors Tanvi C. and Sarah L. conducted a senior survey, making a tradition out of last year’s, and made sure to survey all 70 seniors in the grade. They asked about recreational drug use, hook-up culture, using ChatGPT for schoolwork, and more. In addition to saying goodbye to the seniors, Westridge is also saying goodbye to Director of Upper School Gary Baldwin. You can read a goodbye to him here, and a welcome to the new director of Upper School, Dr. Melanie Arias, here

This edition includes a diverse selection of stories, with a feature on Westridge revision and retake policies, the unprecedented athletics success of the spring season, and everything else that has been happening on our campus in between—from the Night Market to ASB elections

As always, thank you for your strong support. I hope you enjoy this edition and I’ll see you in the fall for our best year of Spyglass yet.

    Happy Summer!
