On April 30, 2025, dozens of Westridge tigers competed at the Prep League Track and Field Finals; three of those athletes took home the illustrious championship title: Micaela R. ’26 in shot put, Teia L. ’26 in pole vault, and Bennett T. ’28 in high jump. Winning their events and the team points that accompany first place, these three, in addition to various other athletes placing, propelled the Tigers to a third place league finish with 63 points.
Here’s what you need to know about Westridge’s three big winners:
Teia L. ’26: A Second League Championship for the Tiger No One Can Catch Up To
Soaring to a mighty 11-0”, Teia captured a new Prep League pole vaulting record alongside her individual championship. This is not the first time the now-junior stood atop the podium; Teia won her first Prep League championship as a freshman in 2023 with a height of 8’9”, while she won CIF Division IV in pole vaulting in 2024 with a height of 11’4”, her personal record.
Every new personal best for Teia is also a new record for Westridge, as she has held the school record since her freshman year. Through May, Teia competed in CIF-SS Division 4, advancing through the rounds. Ultimately, she placed third with a height of 10’10”. Over the weekend, she competed at CIF Masters against the best pole vaulters in Southern California; she placed 15th, achieving a height of 10’09”.
Bennett T. ’28: A First Championship for a Freshman with Unmatched Potential
Hurling herself over a 5-foot bar, freshman Bennett T. claimed the Prep League championship in the high jump, beating the next best finisher by four inches. In her first season on the varsity team, Bennet out-jumped every single other competitor in Westridge history, claiming the school record at 5-0”. Having achieved such a feat, the sky’s the limit for the freshman Tiger who also placed ninth at CIF Division IV Finals.
Reflecting on her first high school season, Bennett said she “felt really good winning Prep League even though it wasn’t really [her] main goal.” Continuing, she said, I was focused on breaking the school record, and as soon as I cleared that last jump, I felt weightless, like I could do anything. The second I landed it, I just crumpled to the floor. I was so happy and so glad I did it.”

Micaela R. ’26: After a Year of Dedication, Micaela R. Comes Back in Her Second Season to Claim a League Championship
Joining the track and field team as a sophomore, Micaela finished her first year throwing shot put as the league’s third place winner, throwing an impressive 28 feet and 8.5 inches. Finishing after two seniors, she came back even stronger the next year, paving her way toward a League Championship and school record. At finals, she threw almost 31’5.5”. Her personal best, however, and the school record, stands at a mighty 33’5”.
Like the two other champions, Micaela competed for the Tigers at CIF Division IV Finals, where she placed eighth.
After her Prep League win, she told Spyglass, “I was shocked to win, and I didn’t realize what I actually accomplished until Coach Horn got really excited. I’m really proud of myself and hope to keep working towards bigger goals.”
Certainly not coincidentally, all three champions own Westridge records in their respective events. Director of Athletics Coach Melanie Horn said, “I cannot recall when we had three Prep League champions in track and field.” She described the championships as “priceless.”
With all three of these athletes still having time to compete at Westridge left, it’s only natural that the Tigers have their sights set on championships next year too.
